What is the best way to get plumber's license. Is it possible to just get a plumbing license by taking classes in college?

Most states I have worked in, require you be working for a plumbing contractor when you take the test. The licence is sent to them if you pass the test. An apprenticeship would be recommended. Reading a bunch of books will not get you through the test. Trust me, been there.

As with most licenses, you must pass a state test in the industry you want to be licensed in. There are a lot of cantracting schools out there, so maybe try enrolling in one. Although I am not a plumber, I have spent my life in the trades and can tell you that the code book can be very confusing at times, so get one, study it, work for a few years for a reptuable company, then take the test. Nothing beats experience in preparing you.

You cannot obtain a license by takin a course....the course is good but in TX you must work 4000 hours to become a tradesman and 8000 hours to become a journeyman....the difference between the two is that a tradesman cannot do commercial work nor can he work on gas lines, whereas the journeyman can. You are required to get an apprentice card as soon as you start working for a plumbing company. So your answer in short is that you must work for a company for approx 2 years to get your tradesman license and approx me 4 years for your journeyman license
