Think it's to do with coping mechanisms, some just learn from negative experiences, while others crumble. Some people are more sensitive as well, it probably helps to be thick skinned. Obviously circumstances and childhood experiences contribute to our feelings as well.

Some people have a lot going for them and others do not. And some people have personality disorders which cause them severe misery. I think it all revolves around the popular nature or nurture belief system. That is, some of who we are comes from nature, or genetics, how we are put together in the womb. And, some of who we are comes from nurture, or how we are raised and the things which we experience in life.

I believe it has something to do with life matching their expectations. Some people just wait for life to happen and some people make life happen for them. Those that make life happen for them have a greater chance of being happier in life than those who just wait for things to happen. What occurs in life may be somewhat chaotic and random, unless we try to manage what is happening and give it some direction. It is interesting that many sources have proposed that only a small percentage of what happens in life requires organization in order for things to look organized. It may be part of my mild Obssessive-Compulsive tendencies, but organization and happiness seem to go together.
