I have just finished re-building my 78 KZ650 from top to bottom. Well everything except the engine that is. And I would love to put some more cc's behind her. I would love to put the KZ1000 into it but i really don't want to modify the frame. If anyone knows what engines would fit into the frame...ie mounts and size. I don't really care about compatability with anything other parts. I had so much fun i would start from scratch again.

I can not say for sure, but most likely an early Kaw 750-4 will/can be fitted with little trouble. Another option is a big bore kit for the 650. The 650/750 are the same 'family' so not a lot of difference. The KZ1000 is a great engine, but larger than the 650, would take frame mods. If you are really interested, E-mail me, I will do a bit of digging, see what I find. I operate a motorcycle machine shop facility, do a lot of this kind of work, and a lot on the old Kawasakis.

Unfortunately you will find the 650 engine is smaller then the larger displacement engine making an engine swap a real headache. A 550 will bolt right in but that kinda defeats the purpose.
