Well I knew something like this was going to happen. It had to really. Next thing will be something to do with cars - an extra tax on driving or parking or some such. It is getting totally ridiculous and then they wonder why people are going into debt - it's because they work all week to fund the government's latest stupid scheme.

No I don't think the Government is worrying about silly things, and I'm a Tory. There are more drunks than adulterers and booze has ruined more marriages than sex and broken more families and left more one parent kids. Yeah! I drink and I don't want to pay more for my beer but if more tax on beer stops more broken homes I'm OK with that. Also not many people fail to turn up for work after having too much sex, I should be that lucky, but millions of hours are lost each year through alcoholism

Dave Cameron is of Scottish decent, so like Brown, who put less tax on Scottish whisky, whilst increasing tax on English beer, Dave thinks we the English can pay more, the Scots less. With no smoking in pubs, soon to be no drinking, if gormless Dave has his way.I enjoy a drink but gave up smoking a few years ago, now I am going to vote for Englishmen only, I will try the English Democrats!

First of all, it is not the government!!
It is the shadow Government who want to tax beer drinkers to pay for the treatment of drug users.
Why the hell should beer drinkers be taxed extra for their treatment. These kind of people should be left to pay for their own treatment, why should I & you have to pay for Heroin, Crack users.
This is a misuse of the people of the UK, do Mr Cameron, there is no chance of you being Prime Minister if you try and brink this in.

The fact is they need someone to pay tax so they can spend on public services. If they taxed other things then people would just stop using them. So they tax things they know we won't give up easily like beer and ciggies. Makes sense though it does hurt.

They want to tax beer more heavily because people who binge-drink are costing the NHS a mint; plus they're going to lose so much from the reduced sales of tobacco which we all know is a health risk. Then it will be fuel that'll be hit because of the health risk from pollution. You already pay a tax if you fly anywhere. Then it will be the fast food places for the risk they allegedly pose to your health. Then it will be mobile phones because of the alleged risk to health...
Health has become nothing more than a really convenient way to justify anything they want to impose in order to cut costs while raking in more dough to pay for for their self-voted pay rises.

Elect communist nannies to rule that what happens. Do not elect politicains that raise taxes because their game is class warfare and they play it well and makes me puke. Taxing sin is stupid if Britian does this im sure someone in America is gonna propose it a day or two later. Nannie state is fasicm and are civil liberties are being sucked up by elitist who never had to mow a lawn, or fix a flat tire.

<>< Even as an ex-smoker, I think it is ridiculous how overboard they have gone with that. They could have left "smoking" pubs around "enter at your own risk". I think they need to start picking on someone else for awhile. It is just PC to pick on smokers and drinkers. Can you imagine if they started taxing diapers for people that have too many babies that they cannot support or, as I believe taxing people that have more than 2 children for schools?

I read something a while back where Seattle or Washington state was going to put a higher tax on coffee cause everyone there drinks so much of it. And let's not forget gas prices going up only during holidays and then back down again ... what's that about?
