This is for a wood fence around my yard. I just need to know the correct formula from going from 4" to 6" pickets.

You may want to check your local codes to see if 6" space between pickets is acceptable. Many municipalities have the 4" spacing to prevent kids from getting their heads stuck. I would hate to see you go through the effort of changing them, just to have someone fine you and make you change it back.

Good luck!

measure the length; and then divide by 6 plus the amount of space in between each picket, if any. i.e. 1/2 inch between pickets, divide by 6 and 1/2 inches.

allow for the space by the gate ir any.

also, please consider donating the 4" pickets to someone who cannot afford to build a fence or to habitat for humanity. thank you.

182 x 4 divided by 6 = 121.3333 or 122
