Did you read it? What did you think?

Absolutely gorgeous. When I finished it, I wanted to start again that minute.

McCarthy has a way with words that is unique and unequaled among his contemporaries. Have you read his earlier work? He wrote a lot of westerns that totally transcend the genre and are quite different from The Road. Different, but his flair for language runs through all of them. I recommend them all - you could maybe start with Blood Meridian.

The Road is great on a number of levels. You could read it just for the story or you can find as much depth as you are looking for. It's all there.

I've been reading him for years. I just recently started again with The Road and just before that, No Country For Old Men, his most recent before The Road. It's also very good, but I think you should read The Road and his earlier work before No Country...

So, yes, definitely read The Road!

It was only okay. My dad recommended it, saying he couldn't put it down. But it wasn't my usual type of book, and I thought it was a little too disturbing and boring for my tastes. The writing style itself was good, unlike anything I've read before.
