I want to change my first name but I don't know how much it costs. Also, I have already been to the courts to change my last name when my step father adopted me when I was 12. Will that make a difference when I go to do it again? (FYI) if you have a step father and he adopts you it's an open window to change your whole name(in the state of FL my family didn't know this till all the paper work was already filled so it was too late.)so now, I live in GA and want to get this done..anyone done it yet? Also I've seen people ask this question saying it's $500-2,000 when I did mine it was only $150.00 in florida. and yes, I'm old enough to do it on my own..I'm 20. Help I can't find any GA info for this. Thanks

Yes, you can legally change your first name. It's called a Petition for Change of Name of Adult.

What county are you in?

Costs vary by state, but generally it's under $100 if you do it yourself. I don't know Georgia's procedure, but generally it only requires filling out a form that you can get from your local county courthouse. Sometimes you may need to go before a judge to explain your reasons, sometimes it's just handled on the paperwork.
