Why can't you wear white after labor day?

i never understood why can;t you wear white after labor day
is it bad luck superstition or what??

White is a summer color. Labor Day marks the end of summer. You can still wear white shirts just no white bottoms. It's not supersition it's fashion.

I have heard that but I always think this way...if that were true, we would never be allowed to wear white since everyday until labor day is after labor day...get it? So...with that said...wear white all you want. I'm wearing it right now and will the day after.

In the old days of natural materials, we wore cotton and linen in the summer because it was cool. In the winter we wore wool. Wool has to be dry cleaned, that's expensive. There is a creamy white worn in winter, called winter white. Stark white is worn during the summer because its easy to bleach.
This housekeeping fact found its way into our lives as a way to keep our cotton bleachable washables apart in our minds from the expensive to wear woolens of winter. Only the very rich could afford the expense of cleaning winter white wools.
