You can access the settings of your wireless router/modem opening your browser (Internet Explorer, for example) and typing in it's IP address, for example:

Linksys's, Trendnet IP is http://192.168.1.1
Netgear and D-Link http://192.168.0.1
Belkin, USRobotics http://192.168.2.1

Then, look for the security settings of the wireless connection and set it to WPA or WPA-PSK, TKIP and make your own passphrase.

Then, double click on your laptop's wireless connection's icon in the system tray and connect manually to the now "secure wireless network" entering the passphrase that you set up in the router.

Still stuck? Look in the wireless router's manual to learn how to secure your connection.

Lots of people ask this question. Lots.

Do you want to password-protect your router so that no one can log into it and change the settings? Or do you want to encrypt the wireless traffic? Or maybe you just want to keep others from using your network?

Go to the Westell site to get the info on logging into your router and making changes.

If you set a password on your router, only you can make changes to it.
If you set up encryption, you have to enter the key on your computer also to access the router.
If you want to keep people off your network, but don't want to mess with encryption, try not broadcasting the ssid. This is usually just a checkbox option. Then on your computer, set up a profile manually with the name of your network. In order to get on your network, someone would have to know the name already. (Of course, change the name from the default as delivered!)
