Go into your local auto store,[if UK Halfords]. Buy a cannister of air con cleaner, about £12. Follow the instructions and it cleans all the bacteria from the system and leaves a pleasant smell in your car. Good for 12 months.

I was once told by an air-conditioning engineer that you should leave it on all year round as it dehumidifies the interior of your vehicle and keeps itself in tip top condition also. Air conditioning doesn't only work on cold. I run mine during the winter too with the heat on. Apparently damage can be done to the air con unit by leaving it idle through the winter and suddely switching it on in the summer. It gets stagnant.
Did you know that a fast way to de-ice the windscreen is to put the air con on, turn the heat up to max and fan up to max and your screen will clear in a minute?

if the refrigerant fluid has a slight leak, also if you set your control to recirculate the cool air inside your car,it stops any air from outside the car getting in,its not good to use this setting for long times.

Sure you can. If there is mold in the system. The spores could be transmitted when you turn it on. Good luck.

Yes you can. bacteria, dust can build up thru the winter months when your not using it. When you do finally use it in the hot summer those bacteria are blown strait into your breathing air.

The system itself can't make you sick, but over time it could blow in exhaust, mold, dust, etc. into the cabin.

you can't get "ill" as such......
but, it can give you a dry mouth, and your hair goes a bit dry....other that that ....no!
air con should be serviced regularly otherwise it will not work correctly...(get as cold as it should!)
