Have you ever asked yourself, ..."why we spent unnecessary money on items for the pure fact of selfishness?" When there are folks in our society that can't affort an roof over there head and food on their table for their children and their family? I know I get the thumbs down again. But by all means, I am striking all my life on wasting money on such unnecessary things even so they might be part of holidays. Nevertheless, Id rather spent my money assisting some one in need. What do you think about this one?

I am so glad you brought up your question. I was just thinking about that myself. Fireworks are so expensive!!! The money could be spent on a charity that so desperatley needs it. So many children are in need of so many things. I agree with you so much!!!

Well, who's to say what's unecessary? Lots of things we do have intangible effects. We buy fireworks and share them together. Maybe it's not so much about the fireworks but spending time together. Or maybe kids who play with fireworks, as I did, learn about fire and how to handle dangerous things, even though they take a risk of injury while doing this.
You know the saying, not everyone can carry the weight of the world. Not everyone can be Mother Theresa and maybe not everyone should. We also need people to build houses and such. "Unecessary" purchases give someone in the world a job. And, if everyone is giving, who's taking?
Now, what you're doing is a beautiful thing. Giving to others. Keep it up. But see that as your choice. God is complicated and the world is complicated. Don't pretend to know it. Maybe helping others more directly is your calling but it may not be the calling of other people.

I think it's a completely selfless act. And, God knows we need more of those. But, even you will occasionally need those fireworks. Sometimes life is hard and really crappy and you just need to do something fun.
I happen to be one of those struggling people you want to help. I have 3 children and am putting myself through college and I have no idea how I'm going to pay the bills alot of the time. Even so, when I get a little extra $$ I take my kids to a movie or out to Chuck E Cheese. That may be irresponsible but, it's important too. It's important for me to be able to develop that bond.
It's an excellent thought to wanna help people and I hope you are able to make a difference in some lives. But, be careful who you give all your $$ to. There are alot of people who will take it whether they need it or not. And, charities are full of crap as far as I'm concerned. I think all that $$ goes over seas instead of helping people at home who need it.

You do have a point in a way... fireworks are unnecessary and there are people out there who could use some extra cash. But there are also a lot of people out there who could use the cash, but don't deserve it. A lot of those "poor" people could be out there earning money, but are just too lazy. I mean, seriously, don't you look in the paper and see "Help Wanted" ads, or walk down the street and see in a store window "Workers Needed"... they even have the occasional ad on the radio. They could get jobs... or at least a lot of 'em could.

We earned the money, and thus have a right to spend it on whatever we want. If other people out there are too lazy to work for their own cash, why should we fund them just so they can sit on their butts?

Yeah, I know there really are some truly poor people out there trying to earn money, people who are working hard, but can't get high enough wages. Those are the people who might even deserve a little cash from us "richer" people. But how are you gonna find them?...

It is not selfishness. Without those kinds of diversions and activities, morale would get very low and more people would just give up. These things help keep our hope and dreams alive and bring out the child in us. These things are vitally important to quality of life, regardless of your financial situation. Maybe even more so if you are struggling. Let up a little!!

First it is tradition. Well to be honest there are a lot of things that everyone waste money on. Should my wife quit getting her nails done, hair styled? You tell her no for me. Is that stuff absolutely needed. No. Is it a luxury? Yes. I do donate to charaties but I work very hard for my money and I will enjoy using it on myself and family. I do feel for the poor and the homeless, but I will not stop enjoying my self completely.

What? Poor people don't enjoy fireworks too? Come on...don't be so harsh on society. It's not what we waste on fireworks, it's what the government steals from us to line their pockets, and the pockets of their cronies, that we should be looking at - with those big bucks, we could wipe out poverty and raise everyones' standard of living.

In all fairness, they shouldn't of had kids if they could not provide for them, that is selfish. Why should the person who did everything right in life suffer because someone else was not responsible?

Buying fireworks, for example, gives money to poor people in China who can work making something that you want.

There are any number of charities to give to if you want to help.
