My 16 year old dog wants to clean my new hamster with his toung. My dog thinks that my Hamster is a puppy and tries to help it out of its cage but once its out my dog tries to lick it. Should I let them play or seperate them?

Now that is unusual. Before you let the two of them near each other, teach your dog a keyword, that you can use to get it off the hamster. One word that works really well is easy. After you teach it this there is no reason why the dog and the hamster can be friends. When they are together however, make sure you keep a close eye on them. If something happens, you need to remove the hamster from the situation. Also make sure that the hamster has a place to escape to at all times.

my dog plays with my hamster he is non aggressive ,and ive had my hamster 3 years so trust both,
its probably not a good idea ,i trust my dog and he has a proven track record ,but to be on the safe side i would not let your dog do it

I think if they really want to play hold the hamster in your hand then bring him or her down to the dog and see what happens.

i think its perfectly normal, because theres a new pet in the house and he wants to see what it does. just let him observe the hamster and then put it in your hand and see what your dog does. hes just excited him has a friend.

How sweet it is. Are you sure the dog isn't thinking "how delicious" as he licks away? If he doesn't eat him why not? Gives the dog something important to do.
