I bought this car 10 months ago for 550 and then paid 530 to have new breaks and tires put on it. Recently it blew a head gasket... I found someone who could fix the car for 300 dollars because they will charge a flat rate for fixing the car... Which is really good for me... but I was just wondering if it is worth it to put the money into this car... I mean, its really my only option right now... im only 17 and I turn 18 in October and plan on buying a new car then... I have no one who could help me get a car earlier because everyone I know has bad credit... but does anyone have suggestions on things I should look out for or if its worth it to put the money in this car? Im just really frustrated at the moment.

It depends a lot on a few things not mentioned here, such as, condition of body and interior, miles and is it a 4 cylinder?
If the interior is in good shape, maybe, if it's a 4 cylinder with about or over the 100k mark, then very doubtful, as these four bangers had a bad habit of self destructing around 100k miles or shortly after. The six cylinders were a little better and might be worth the $300.00. Just remember, you are already to the point of no return with cost as far as what the car is worth.
I know a lot of people will cite instances where they knew somebody that put on millions of miles on the four bangers, but in actual life, not many made over 100k without major work.

Have you thought about trying to fix it yourself? If you can read and follow simple instructions and have some mechanical ability, you could replace the gasket yourself over a weekend. You can get a Haynes manual that would have step-by-step instructions. A four-cylinder front-wheel drive car is usually pretty easy to work on, and those old Dodge Aries had very simple little motors. You could learn a lot about cars while doing it and you would be very proud of yourself when you finished it. The parts are pretty cheap. You can probably get everything for around $50.

Considering your age, I would say fix it. The fact that you already have almost 1100.00 into it, if you don't fix it, you will not be able to recoup your money.
The flat rate is probably the best way to get things done.
I would also suggest that you learn how to do things such as this, and you would be able to save yourself a lot of money with car ownership.

Consider buying another car when you have a regular (non-Micky-D's) paycheck coming in such as after college or permanent duty station in the military.

Good Luck

I wouldn't have invested any money in an almost 20 year old vehicle, but then again I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. It's your call.
