While its true alcohol is a stimulant too much of it will keep you awake. if you are of legal age to drink a small drink at bed time can help you to relax and sleep. But drunkeness is harmful to you. Lay off the alcohol and get some rest, its just not good for you in the amount your taking in.

Alcohol is actually a DEPRESSANT, not a stimulant.

However, alcohol can often induce what's termed a "biphasic response"... meaning that it displays some properties of both stimulants and depressants. But it's primary action is a depressant.

It's odd that you can't get to sleep while drunk. I personally feel that drunk sleep is some of the best sleep... hangover aside. It's difficult to say what exactly could be the cause. Many alcoholic beverages contain plenty of sugars, which may be what's keeping you up. Try cutting back on the sweet liquors.

If you're looking for a fast way to sober up, I'm afraid there is none. However, you can reduce the time it takes by doing the following:
1) Drink lots of water. Water will be absorbed and passed through the body quickly, taking with it some of the alcohol from the blood stream in addition to dilluting it.
2) Eat a meal. This will get the metabolism up and help you metabolize the alcohol a little quicker.
3) Exercise. In addition to increasing your body's metabolism, it'll help to excrete some of the alcohol by sweating.

If you're consistently having difficulty sleeping, you may either want to get some over the counter or Rx sleeping pills... just be sure they're non-habit forming. Or, you may have to reduce your alcohol consumption.

Hope that helps a little. Cheers!

alcohol is a stimulant, of course you can't sleep. Stop getting drunk, you display one of the early signs of alcoholism.
