and not doing what is best

You can never know for certain...and I'm not sure that question is answerable. Life is a continuous story unfolding...with each new circumstance building off from the prior.

Start by looking at your past...perhaps somebody who knows you well could help you. Try to identify the low and high points of your life then ask yourself:

Why was this a high point...low point?
What did I do that worked...didn't work?
How can I apply that success here and now?
Am I repeating this failure again....why?

List your characteristics/skills both good and bad and determine where these came into play at each high/low point. Are these characteristics/skills compatible with what you are doing or trying to achieve now?

Then take some 'me' time...and consider what you want to achieve...tomorrow, next week, next year, in 10 years. Write in all down.

Do you have the characteristics/skills required to do it?
If not...where can you develop them? What can your present characteristics/skills enable you to actually do now?

I just earned my masters and after all that work...I've decided I want to go into a different field. I looked closely at my life and realized that I'd be better and happier doing something else.

Don't give up...it is okay to feel lost...but don't let the anxiety of uncertainty push you towards a goal you don't really, really love. Aim for your dreams...and map out the path to get there...

My very best to you!

If you're seriously living each day like the previous day going through the same motions...walking/driving the same route having the same thoughts then you pretty much are just wasting your life away...If you try and do something different everyday to reach towards a certain goal then you're living.
I've noticed that some of the others asked if you were happy...but you can be happy and wasting your life....it's just that it doesn't matter. I think that a life becomes wasted if you remain stagnant in your course of action and thinking like living every day as the previous one...it doesn't allow you to grow and if you're not growing then you're pretty much wasting time and your life.

I honestly feel that I'm wasting my life like many others who don't know how to make our life purposeful. I can't think of doing anything at the moment how to do anything other than getting up and going to work, come home from work tired. Read & watch news. Shop for theessentials and go to bed each day with not much change in the routine. Is this life? But what do I do about it?

At one point in my life I would have answered "if you have to ask, you are", but I no longer think that. Evolution of the mind :o). Anyways, what you need to do is ask yourself what it is that makes your life seem valuable to you. If you are doing things which are in synch with this, then you are worrying too much!! On the other hand, if you can see that your actions are leading you down paths you don't really want to travel and that, in general, are heading away from what you consider to be of value in a life, it's time to pullover and draw a new map. In the end though, realize that searching is also of value and should never be considered as a waste.

What is best? Only you can know what is best, there is no objective "best" thing we all should be doing in life. Just do what makes you happy! Do what your passionate about, follow your interests, spend time with the people you love. Do what YOU think is best...

First you have to know what your life is supposed to be about. Maybe you're supposed to work hard, spend fast, breed more hardworking consumers, and die, like everybody else. Maybe you need to decide on a purpose for your life. Or, you can ask someone else for one, and be a follower! This works best for most people. What is best for you?

If you live it, you're not wasting it. Many times the best path or act is not known until it's too late.

If you are happy with your life, then you are not wasting it. If you feel that you are unhappy or could be doin something better, then you need to look deep within and figure out what makes you happy. simple.

I think the more important question here is why do YOU think you are wasting your life?

You ask yourself what are you doing at this moment, and is it a rational action (is it worth your time)

If its worth your time,if it fills up your batteries and gets you ready for action it is most probably

Try to focus on 2 things for start : time and energy
