Yep, RAM takes care of the short term memory of your computer and exists in physical modules. You cannot increase a module's RAM, you have to buy new modules and install them (or have someone else install them). You need to know 3 things :
1) Does your computer have one or two DIMM(s)? Basically, your computer can hold one or two RAM modules.
2) How much RAM do you need. For most people, 1Gb is enough, but for big gamers, media, or graphics users, 2 GB would be better.
3) What kind of computer do you have?
You can get RAM modules at your local electronics store or online.

You need to buy new RAM then, you can get about 1gb RAM for approximately £30 now (at least where i live).
Make sure you have the exact make and model of RAM as 2 different kinds rarely work together.
Also, you need to know whether your mother board uses DDR100, 200, 400 or DDR2 etc. If you buy DDR400 and it doesnt accept it you'll be wasting money.

There's hundreds of different kinds of RAM and usually only a few will work in your machine, click on the link below and run the crucial system scanner, it will tell you exactly which RAM is compatible and even give you a few prices too, there's even a section on how to safely install RAM if your not used to doing that
