For the same reason that no animal and for that matter no plant can live in peace. We (individually, as a community and as a species) want the best deal going. This means competing with others for the means of life, and this competition means that the losers will get less of those means. Dying is not desirable, so organisms (consciously or not) fight - for instance beech trees secrete a chemical into the soil which poisons other trees. Fleas eat from cats, while cats eat mice. And so on.
It is also true that the cats fight among themselves for territory (= hunting opportunities), for the right to reproduce, and so on.
Finally, cats as a species compete with stoats, owls, foxes and magpies for the same sort of prey.
The Arabs have a proverb:
...Me against my brother
...Us brothers against our cousins
...The family against the town
...Our town against the rest................and so on.
Read Darwin. He puts it very nicely.

The want for one person to prove he or she is more important than another, (Foucault, the French Philosopher had ideas along these lines) and that person feels that they are right and other people are wrong. In doing this it gives grounds for disagreement which builds up into an argement. Eventually the two sides will disagree with each other and not talk to each other, they will both have the strong oppinion of being right, and usually there is religion involved somewhere on both sides. Another cause is when people try to take stuff, a kind of simple way of describing the Norman conquest, where Harold was one king and William was another, Will wanted what Harold had so there was the Battle of Hastings. Hope this answers your question.

It is so obvious :that "we battle not against flesh and blood but against powers of darkness in high places" Really if you evaluate and objectively look at the persecution of War and the flailing men in authority thinking they are right in the behaviors they do, opposed to what is right and true. I personally believe that one day we shall live in peace with one another. When it is so simple that people battle over religion, colors, monetary gain and self empowerment it has to be negative energy,Satan or evil whatever you chose to call it. God stated he would place blinders on the eyes of some as he did Pilot and Pharaoh so his glory might go forth, okay God allows deception and deception is the precursor of War. I once got a word of Knowledge about 25 years ago that explained how God had purposed one man for one woman and the power of these soul mates could over throw all forms of evil. So when mankind and womankind can figure out how to find their true soul mate then humanity will live in peace. Until then? Humans will continue to try and fill the void with all forms of wrong doing: and War has many faces of wrong doing. In happiness I can tell you this but in disgust and anger I must live within the other. Finding the truth to set mankind free from the bondage of war.

i have the same question. And i think that all the answers are correct. The problem is we all have different opinions but no one will accept any opinion but their own. People in politics and war think about what they can do for there country but when you think about it doesn't help their country to fight. Everyone else loses their peace of being a big community and living together and loving eachother. If we continue to stand on top of the earth because we have more power what will happen to love peace and harmony.

Humans did live in peace, both with each other and the environment; for a very long time. Then somebody came up with the idea of money.

Tough question. I like to think there's a first time for everything. So just because we've been waring for our entire history doesn't mean we have to. But I do think combativeness is a part of humans. I think the fighting instinct can be enhanced or minimized, like in the case of training a dog, but the instinct is there. Like many animals we are territorial by nature. We want to protect our stuff. This was adaptive in our early history but may be very dangerous with modern technology.

Humans can. Primates can't.
Primates do not have the desire to understand their world or themselves. And so everything becomes magical or miracle. The conflicts arise from different magical beliefs. The very existence of a different belief invalidates their own. Since their magic cannot be proven, all else must be destroyed.
Then theres the primate breeding instinct, also magical/miracle, which is causing overpopulation and not leaving any room for different beliefs.

There is a profound question, if there ever was one. . .One that human-kind is still searching the answer for. We, as humans, can only wonder why peace evades us so. I wish that I had the answer, as I would give that answer to the world.
