your horse is not a baby at 5 she is a mature horse, does she rear when leading her or when riding her,
if its when riding her she could have a back problem, does the saddle fit her properly have you had a saddler out to check its not pinching on her withers,
i would get a vet to check her teeth and back first and if that's OK,get a saddler out to check your saddle

You got a few good serious answers here. I'm with you about "baby" though. Many people familiar only with other breeds like to start at two. Responsible Arabian people simply don;t start this young. 1- Arabians mature more slowly than some other breeds, physically and mentally. 2- Arabians "last" longer (connection there? hmmmm, maybe) At five, hopefully you;ve been doing the ground work and she certainly should be ready to move on.

Evaluate under what circumstances she is acting up. Is this a respect/ control issue? If so, seek help with a reputable Arabian trainer- not a show trainer, just someone familiar with the breed- harsh methods sometimes used with other breed horses may not be suitable for your girl. But, she does need to respect you. If this isn;t the problem, look at your equipment. Bit or saddle could be problem. sometimes bit can be uncomfortable and cause head toss--> rear. Someone may suggest harsher bit- but NO, go gentler with bit and work on poll, nose, and chin pressure. Check out: http://www.toklat.com/myler/home.html

Good luck with your baby girl!

she is probably testing you, you should do more groundwork with her and more round penning. when she rears dont pull on her face. normally a horse would give a sign if it is going to do something wrong like stopping or throwing its head, when it gives a sign make her do groundwork immedietly like moving sideways. rearing is a sign of restricted forward movement which might mean something or someone(yourself)is telling her to move forward but she cant because she is restricted(pulling on bit ect.) if she is lashing out when she rears she probably finds you a threat. also she might not be properly trained. have you worked with her at all and if so then how long and what did you try to work with her. she might not be fully trained. she might not be halter or lead broken if she does it when she leads. maybe it is a health problem. if you can supply me with anymore details and have anymore questions please e-mail me because ive trained horses for 7 years and have dealt with a lot of different problems.

I had an Arabian that had degenerate joint disease and it was tough but i had fun teaching him when to rear up and when not to. if you put a chain across the nose through the halter and when he rears up tug on it gently and tell him down, some ginger snaps or sweet mix for a reward when he comes down works wonders and if you can anticipate when he is thinking of rearing tell him up and let him up then do the down and reward him you have just taught him 2 new tricks

Without more info Ice Queen pretty much summed it up. It could be your asking her to go & stop @ the same time & she's frustrated w/ you. Plus how much are you feeding her & what. How often turned out? Have you had proffesoinal lessons? What is the horses history?
