I'm a poor student of legal age out here in California for vacation, and I wanted to sample the exquisite wines of the Sonoma Valley region for hopefully no money. Can someone help me?

Most places in Napa and Sonoma charge for tasting, but the money will be credited if you buy a bottle. Try going to the wine areas west of Sonoma. Sebastopol and Healdsburg have some KILLER wineries. They are almost all free, good prices on bottles, and the people running the tasting rooms are really friendly. Napa and Sonoma get too crowded and snooty.

Wine tastings are one of the most wonderful things you can do for free anywhere in the U.S. Sonoma is my favorite. You'll meet great people and learn much about California. Here's a link to the wineries in Sonoma:

Other parts of the Sonoma.com website show you what else there is to do there. The first time I went to the wine country, I took the wife of one of my former husband's employees to over 15 wineries. (We lost count. LOL) We drove up the highway in Napa, stopping at each winery along the way, and then crossed over a mountain to Sonoma. On the way back, I nearly burned out the breaks on my Mustang rental coming down the mountain with my guest screaming her lungs out. You will have a great time. Enjoy.

95% of the wineries offer free tasting. The best one includes a wine tasting class for free - goosecross cellars
