Edirectory is faster and more reliable for an enterprise environment than Active Directory. Better tools, more stability and functionality. AD works as well - better for smaller server management.

Previous answer is incorrect as to cross-platform support: the main reason many large companies are still on eDirectory is that Active Directory locks you into Windows. eDirectory can be run on all popular platforms, including Windows, Linux, Netware and Solaris. Since eDirectory, unlike Active Directory, is certified LDAP standard compliant (unlike AD) developers can follow the LDAP standard and know it will work with eDirectory.

pros : - the undeniably wonderful feeling you would get with it slushing around your private bits - food is a very good thermal insulator so would keep you warm during the winter months - you will be the life of any party in a starving poor country - animals will chase you and eat your clothing (this has to be the no. 1 'adult' fantasy of all time hasn't it? Or is it just me...) - A new fashion every day! - starting a food fight would be some much easier, also the easy access to ammunition would mean you were assured to win - all your grocery and food requirements could be found in your nearest supermarket - how convenient! Cons: - If you accidentally wandered into a group of obese dieters you could mistakenly be seen as a sacrifice and be eaten. - thats all I got for cons...

the above poster is correct. ED tends to be faster and a more robust product. However AD has better cross platform support, and is more easy to scale then ED.
Windows, Mac, and most commercial UNIX will support AD out of the box, that isn't the case with ED.
