Looks like your speedometer cable. See the slot in the end? That is how your speedo reads the revolutions on the wheel. Is the speedo working?

Based on your description and the photos, it does appear to be the speedometer cable, and it looks like it is pretty well damaged - replacement with a new one is recommended. Now, I'm wondering how you "rode off" with the disc lock in place - a disc lock works by not allowing the rotor (attached to the wheel) to turn by stopping up against the brake caliper, and the best practice is to place the disc lock against the brake caliper so that the bike cannot move forward. It is also a good idea to attach a warning cable and flag from the disc lock to either the throttle or clutch side of the handlebar, so you don't try that trick again. Usually, attempts to ride off with a disc lock in place result in an almost immediate drop to the pavement. You may want to confirm that you are installing the disc lock properly, 'cause it doesn't seem to have done its job for you (immobilizing the bike).

It's the speedometer cable.
It gets attached to the speedometer drive (the gray item in the center of the wheel).
Remove the screw holding the cable to the speedo drive and remove the remaining part of the broken cable.
Turn the wheel and look in the hole the cable came out of.
You should see the speedo drive turning.
If not, it may be broken.
Follow the cable up to the top, where it attaches to the speedometer.
The cable is just screwed on.
Buy a new cable and you'll see how it screws on.

looks like the speedo cable, you can replace it. but to keep this from happening in the future wrap your disc lock with electric tape, every time you lock your wheel take off a little piece of tape and cover your ignition, that will give you a reminder so you don't do it again.

Looks like the speedometer cable to me.
I've broken the speedometer cable on every motorcycle I've ever owned. Don't ask me how.

Does your front brake still work? I cant identify your bike but I would guess it's your brake cable. May even be a cable to the speedo.

If it's not the brakes, I'd think it was a speedometer cable.

Speedometer cable. You should have a flag on your disc lock so this doesn't happen again.
