Yes it's correct and shows possession by a plural possessor (more than one friend). The "possessed thing" is understood to be "home"--Mum and Dad are at their friends' home/house/pad/place/apartment.

I'm not an English teacher but I have a Ph.D in an English intensive subject (History). Your friend is correct ... since 'friends' is plural and possessive you place an apostrophe after the 's' in ' friends.'

Your friend is correct. The ' belongs after the 's' in friends since it is plural.

The "s'" shows possesion. That is to say that these friends are friends of mum and dad as opposed to friends of aunt Sally.

If there's more than one friend there, it's correct. If it's one friend, it's wrong. Plural posessive as opossed to singular posessive.

Alright, if you have one friend and something belongs to them, you'd say and write, "friend's." If you have more than one, you'd think you'd write, "friends's" but no, we just skip that last s.

Oh, thank you...finally a correct answer (or at least one that provided the explanation). Thank you, Goddess of Grammar!

I'm fairly sure that's incorrect, as there isn't any specification of what is being possessed by the friends... but that's just me.
