Why do so few women under 40 wear skirts these days ?

Almost every young woman these days is wearing jeans or combat pants. Skirts can look much better than trousers.

Since the internet has been invented there are too many people trying to catch glimpses with their mobile phones and putting on websites, I can relax in trousers and not worry.

A lot of women wear trousers for work because they are more practical, and let's face it, jeans are the ubiquitous choice for both genders for casual. I wear skirts when I want to look smart, for formal occasions like weddings and in the the summer when we get one I much prefer a floaty cotton skirt to a tight pair of jeans any day.

Because with skirts you have to wear tights or stockings which are really uncomfortable, it is much easier to slip into some trousers or jeans.

The same reason that most men wear trousers rather than kilts or sarongs or togas. Cos it's more practical and warmer and you can wear socks instead of tights cos tights/stockings have to be hand-washed and we get sick of doing it, whereas you can chuck socks in the washing machine, easy peasy.

Well, I wear trousers/jeans/combat pants because they are comfortable, but it does vary with the climate. If it's hot, then I won't bear jeans.

Also, comically, it also has to do with the state of the woman's legs. If she feels she is fat/she hasn't shaved her legs well enough, it's easier to hide her flaws with jeans. :)

Basically, it has to do with self-consciousness, climate or pure laziness. :D

i feel like a bit too girly if that makes any sense when i wear a skirt, i will if its a night out maybe... they are annoying when they rise up and it just easier to wear trousers sometimes

i must be in the minority. i love wearing skirts. OK so sometimes it's more practical to wear pants. skirts make me feel feminine

I wear pants/shorts most often because of the work that I do.

blame equal opportunities. as women have to take on more 'male' tasks, trousers are more practical than skirts
