The newest version of Netware, being 6.5 (Open Enterprise Server uses 6.5sp3), improves on versions 5 and lower in basically the following ways:
1. Has Apache web server, the world's most popular.
2. Can run java applications natively
3. iPrint is Netware's IPP (internet printing protocol) implementation for being able to print to any Novell network over the internet. Since it's based on NWPS and eDirectory, security and automatic driver downloads are built in.
4. browser based admin from anywhere in the world via iManager
5. Further advancements in eDirectory now make it extremely stable and able to handle over a billion objects (basically you could fit the www on eDirectory)
6. iFolder is a syncing software that goes on (presumably) laptops or home PCs, and syncs their chosen files with the Netware server (at work) in the background.
7. Native File Access means that Netware will imitate Windows, Unix or Apple servers - the users are none the wiser.
8. Some users love drive mappings - netdrive allows a mapped drive over the internet, so a user can save files to her "X:" drive and not realize it's actually on a server 50km away...
9. there are more but you get the idea.
Basically Netware 6.x improves on previous versions by incorporating all the great features plus web stuff for Intranets, web sites, web applications, and management via a browser from anywhere in the world.
