the consequences are usually that the police department gets brought up on charges of racial profiling and after and investigation if they are found guilty they are likely discharged and the city fined to make restitution.

Policing using racial profiling is against the law of police ethics - even cops have ethics. Searches are not done usually without a warrant or verbal consent. When an auto is being searched, they do not have to have a warrant because the auto is highly mobile and if cops leave to get a warrant the car and whatever items in the car won't be there when the cops come back.

When police engage in CRIMINAL profiling, law enforcement is more efficient and crime is reduced. RACIAL profiling can only be rationally defined as listing characteristics that define a given race. As such it has nothing to do with anything the police are capable of doing. RACISM by individual officers harms everyone involved.
