Not to worry. Area is a measure of space occupied by
things that have length and width, but no depth. We call this "square feet", and calculate it by multiplying the object's length by its width. For your carpet, 15x11=165 square feet.
The place where people go wrong is not making sure the units of measurement for the length and the width are the same. If you were to want enough carpeting for a runner 12ft. long and 36in. wide, you should NOT multiply 12x36. Either change the feet to inches, in which case your answer will be in square inches, or change the inches measurement to feet, to get square feet.

It's rather amazing that I'm allowed to answer questions like this-in my final year of Engineering I said in my exam that there were 12 feet in an inch!
Hope you like your carpet.

Now to answer your question.
1 sq. ft. =0.0929 sq.m.
Therefore 165 sq.ft.=165x0.0929 =15.3285 sq. m.

You do need to convert feet to meters as above, but it's not quite that easy. The carpet will come in a standard width. You'll have to find out what that is and purchase enough to avoid joining, and still minmize waste.
Convert to meters by dimension and ask the friendly salesperson for advice.

OK, you can either convert the linear dimensions from feet to meters and then calculate the area, or you can convert the area from square feet to square meters. I'll do the first, since you might have to shop for carpets by linear dimensions. Please excuse the extensive math. I only remember one conversion 1 inch = .0254 meters

15 feet = 15 ft * 12 in/ft * .0254 m/in = 4.572 m

11 feet = 11 ft * 12 in/ft * .0254 m/in = 3.3528 m

Area equal length times width = 4.572 m * 3.3528 m = 15.329 m^2

It's a pretty big carpet to grasp with your hands isn't it. lol. hilarious

You need to convert the feet to metres. Which is easy to do, just type in 'units converter' into Google or Yahoo.

Then convert that into square metres.

1 Foot = 0.305 metre
So, 15 foot = 4.575 metre
and, 11 Foot = 3.355 metre

So the area = 15.3491 m^2
= 15.35 m^2
