Here's what I usually do. A topic comes into my mind and I ask myself what images does that topic suggest. I try to steer away from abstract words like pain, happy, sad). I try to think about concrete nouns and verbs that describe the topic. Then I start writing.

For example, I posted a poem on the site here a few days ago. I was thinking about how people today feel a sense of malaise or melancholy sinking into depression rather than growing through adversity. The title popped into my mind "Ordinary Sadness" and then I thought what does this kind of attitude look like in an image: I started writing about coffee (I know I was like why am writing about coffee). It all worked out though--you just need to trust yourself and believe that your mind will make the connections.

Sometimes it will be because a creative line will pop into your head, and you need to write about it. These are the things that happen to me when I start a poem.

Hey good luck to you. It can be frustrating, but writing is an enjoyable way to express yourself.

Poems are drawn from inspiration within one's soul. I would look inside yourself to whom and/or what means a lot to you- then write a creative sentence describing your feelings- then write another line following that, attempting to match the rhythm & rhyme of the 1st sentence that you wrote, and continuing on in this way. It takes some effort & time, but you will eventually get your poem written down. Writing poetry well does not happen immediately, but with practice you will get better at it.

Well first seek the emotion you want to base your poem on. If you feel anger or hatred, then go towards that. After choosing an emotion and subject, get together some references that make you think of those emotions, these can be personal experiences, similes, metaphors, etc. Basically, you're mind will begin to ponder upon these thoughts and you will begin to write in no time.

For me, I'm usually thinking about something, whatever feelings I might be experiencing or trying to evoke. Then
there's usually one line or phrase that kind of pops into my head. I use that as the seed, and try to write out of that.

If you need to release a lot, the best bet might be just to write your feelings, and don't worry about rhyme or meter. Then, try to think of similies or metaphors or poetic imagery to describe your feelings, and go from there.

for poems there is no real grammar rules... no capitalization etc.,
for my poems i start with the title and let all thoughts relating to that title i write down on a seprate sheet of paper and then organize it from there!

hope this helps!!!

In the first line just say what you're feeling, plainly. Then just expand on it. Have a rhythm pattern in mind when you start. Then hopefully once you start the rest will just come to you.
