i want to buy a shotgun but want to familiarize myself with the laws in houston, texas. such as do i need a permit to buy one, does it have to be registered, can i carry it in my vehicle without any permits. i've been burglurized before and just want to carry protection. or do you know where i can get all of this information.

The sites below appear to be good sources. At first glance it appears Texas doesn't have much in the way of gun laws. As long as you don't use the gun in a crime, you are probably OK.

I lived in katy and shotguns are ok to keep anywhere in your house, may be transported in your car but must be in a case out of reach and visible. It has gotten more strict than it used to be, you used to be able to carry it in the passenger seat without a case, but the good part is, we can still blast people if they step on our property - no questions asked.

I think in Texas you can be arrested for NOT having a gun.

(at least after the age of 7).

I prefer a small caiber hand gun myself. It reduces the amount of splatter on my walls.

If you move to the state you will be asked if you own a gun. If you answer no they will issue you one
