If you think that you might ever travel outside of the US and would want to take your phone with you, Cingular (now AT&T) or T-Mobile are your ONLY viable options. CDMA/TDMA & iDen phones are bricks in GSM areas.

If you travel extensively in the US, Cingular/AT&T is probably the better bet as you're more likely to get a usable signal at any given spot on the map.

If you're not likely to roam far from home, research which carriers have the best local signal strength and then buy on price.

cingular, in my opinion, has a better coverage area. my parents have verizon and theres a lot of places they can't get signal. i, however, have cingular. and i've never gone somewhere and gone into roaming. i've almost always got 4 bars or more of signal

I went with Cingular. Only because I bundled it with land line service and DSL. Got a free phone out of it, and the rate plan for basic service is comparable with everyone elses. Also note, it's also the only provider for iphone service, should you desire that in the future!

Cingular...because of the prices & the reception.
Verizon....because of the phones.

T-MOBILE BECAUSE OF THE SIDEKICK 3 :D

I have verizon, and I nearly always have excellent service (the exception being at my cabin, 2 hours from the nearest paved road)

My friends say Verizon is better. The signal is better.
