I have a Dell Optiplex GX260 with a 2-gigahertz processor, 512 MB ram, a 20gb hard drive and Windows XP Professional. I want to sell this machine to buy a new tower. Any suggestions on a price.

If your system had at least a gig of ram and 150 gig hard drive, it would sell for $300. But since it does not have that I would say $100 - $200. They market today is pretty competitive. They are making computers so cheap and when you buy one, the next day they are out dated. Computers are a fast pace selling business. But that is not a bad system you have. That would do great for a college student. Or as a second computer. But really the price would depend on the board. Is the board upgradeable and how much can you upgrade on the board. What video card is in it etc. I wish you luck.

I would suggest checking out the going prices on ebay and other sites to get a good idea. Computers can be a hard sell. Make sure you do a very thorough job wiping the hard drive before you sell it. Personally I am a bit paranoid so every computer i sell is sold without a hard drive. i keep them and use them as extra storage untill they die then i will normally do what i can to destroy the hard drive (usually involves a torch and a sledgehammer) But i am just really paranoid knowing how even partially destroyed hard drives can have data recovered from them i try to make sure the entire disc platter is melted.

That hard drive is useless by today's standards. People will skip over your computer simply because of that. Do you have any office software on there, like Microsoft Office? If not, I'd say $150-$250. A 2GHZ P4 (even if it doesn't have HT) and 512MB RAM isn't that bad, but the 20GB drive just makes it look worthless.

I didn't know that 20 Gig HDD's were still around!!!
The only way you're going to dump that antique is to donate it to a charity with a warning that it may not last long as it has only 20 Gig of space on the HDD. 512 Megs of RAM and it runs at a blazing speed of 2GHertz.
Your old machine might be good for a person that wants to play "Solitaire" or sumthin'.
Maybe a person that needs to learn the basics of computing would enjoy it.
I see that you want a tower now, I don't blame you. A portable is difficult to work on yourself, but a tower is much easier to upgrade yourself and thus save some cash.

Well, Its pretty much obsolete. I myself wouldent pay anymore than $100. You can build a computer thats fast and up to date, with a little less that $600. I use Tiger Direct, they have great prices and great Tech Support

Honestly, you can buy a computer tower 5000x better than that for $300, so you would be lucky if you could get $100 for that.

Not a whole lot. If it has a decent video card in it maybe $100 USD.
