If I understood it correctly, when you kill someone you split your soul (whether you want to make an Horcrux out of it or not).If that is so, I don't think Harry will kill Voldemort. Even Dumbledore always said that Harry didn't have to follow the prophecy, it was Voldemort who was obcessed with it. What is your opinion? How can Harry vanquish Voldemort without actually killing him? Maybe he can be defeated without being killed, maybe someone else will kill him or maybe he will kill himself? Be imaginative!

To Diavola: He has to kill one person for every Horcrux that he makes.

Good thinking Jamie C. The wands pose another problem. They don't do very well in battle against each other because of Priori Incantatem.

I've said it before in a different question. A shielding charm. I don't recall if Dumbledore tried one or not in the Ministry of Magic battle (I do recall Fawkes gobbling a blast). If not, then Harry may find a way to strengthen it to stand up against a killing curse. It may even cause the curse to reflect back at Voldemort. Thusly it's not Harry who actually kills Voldemort, it's Voldemort himself.

And Dumbledore keeps mentioning the love Harry's mom had for him when she sacrificed her life for his. It's what caused the killing curse to rebound off Harry and Strike Voldemort the first time. And it's why even after Voldemort's body was regenerated he couldn't stand being in Harry's head for too long during the Ministry battle. Perhaps Harry can find a way to use that love to strengthen his own powers. That might be what would give him a powerful shielding charm as described above.

I think Harry will be able to defeat all the Horcruxes. He might be able to aquire help to defeat them. I really don't see how Harry can defeat Voldermort w/o killing the Horcruxes, sorry. Hmmm, maybe something might happen to their wands, like it did in the 4th book...or maybe Harry will be able to defeat Voldermort by the connection with his scar...

I think he might have to defeat all the Horcruxes because even Dumbledore didn't see a way out of it. Then again, he always mentioned to Voldermort that there are better ways of defeating a person then death...OH, maybe a dementor might suck his soul...but then again, they're on his side. Well...I'm still thinking.

OH, maybe he might defeat the Horcruxes, and maybe when he faces Voldermort, then they might have a wand thing again, and maybe it might backfire...

Well, Rowling cannot introduce anymore new obstacles in the book, because this will be the last book, she will have to twist her old writing into making a new adventure, so maybe she might have something dealing w/ the Parseltounge, or maybe Voldermort transferred something else to Harry, and it might have been used once or twice in the past, but it actually being identified in the 7th book. I am still not completely sure. Hope this helps!

I understood it that way, too, but surely that would leave muffle mass-murderers with splinters of soul, yes? Anyway, Voldemort had already made two murders before we even learned of the horcruxes, so why did he then have to make six new kills? I don't understand. @_@

Anyway, it's likely Harry Potter will kill Voldemort. Rowling has a fairly predictable style of writing, I think. However, I could be mistaken. There's always the chance she'll break the hearts of children world-wide and have Potter die! (Pffft, yeah, right.) /Maybe/ a significant death eater will turn on Voldemort, but I still vote Harry.

Well, if you read it correctly, the prophecy says that "neither can live while the other one survives". Nowhere does it say that Harry has to be the one to kill Voldy or vice versa.

Personally I think Harry and Ron and Hermione (and maybe Ginny) will destroy all the Horcruxes and then SNAPE will kill Voldemort. With the help of the Trio, of course, and Draco...

Go ahead, call me delusional, I don't care. A girl can dream, can't she...

If in fact he does kill Voldemort and his soul does get split in half, i think there is a special way to separate that part of your soul from the body. I think that there is a choice to do something with that soul. And from what we know, the others who have killed many people don't have their soul split into horcruxes. And if it does take away part of your soul, why is it that Voldemort still has any of his soul left? He has, in fact, killed many more people than 7.

the way i understood it, in order to make a horcrux, you have to kill someone; but that doesn't mean that when you kill someone you split your soul...it sounds as if after you kill someone you have to perform a spell to split your soul. and yes, i do think harry will have to kill voldemort, he'll have to be the one to finish off the last piece of voldemort's soul. at least that's my guess! = )

my first theory: harry kills voldemort. he has to. after all he has been through. i thought that maybe either ron, hermione or ginny is killed by voldemort and this makes harry so angry that, and he has nothing to lose anymore and he kills voldemort. or maybe he can' and i imagine this battle in a cave or something and harry is really angry but he can't find it in himself to kill voldemort because that is not what harry is all about... but instead he makes the cave fall on them both, and both harry and voldemort die... or stay forever burried beneath a mountain of rock
if harry is to be killed before he kills voldemort, then either of the people who loved harry will become strong enough to kill voldemort... including ginny... i mean. even JKR said there is more to be expected from ginny in book 7

I don't know but here is a poem to make you feel happy.

Born fragile, born sweet,
Into the hands of rings.
Born a monster, born elite.

A monster's fate is his beat,
Hes just begininng to learn instinctive things.
Born fragile, born sweet.

Now knowing secrets of the street,
This young prince has grown horned wings.
Born a monster, born elite.

Siring children is his next feat,
Heirs is what that brings.
Born fragile, born sweet.

He died shameful, he died defeat,
Death brings joy to the valley for it sings.
Born a monster, born elite.

Father dead, repeat, repeat
But 'tis the way of Royalty, but 'tis the way of kings.
Born Fragile,born sweet,
Born a monster, born elite.
