For my tenth birthday, my mom let me have a sleepover and invite up to 10 girls. I had us camp out in our backyard by a campfire. We made smores, and played games in the tents with flashlights, it was a lot of fun! Of course, pool parties are always great in the summer. You can take beach buckets, which you can get at the dollar store, and fill them with chips. I would suggest the camping sleep over for a tomboy, but ask her what she wants. She knows better than anybody!

A 10 yr old girl would probably like to help plan her own party. She knows her friends and who gets along together and, of course, what they would think was cool - which at 10 is pretty important.
If you are set on a surprise, here are some ideas:
- rent a good movie (or 2) and some music videos (check for content)
- make-your-own pizzas (or ice-cream sundaes)
- bead kits for the kids to make name bracelets, anklets, friendship bracelets, etc. (maybe go to a hobby store to pick out some extra beads in favorite colors or with letters or whatever)
- games like Pictionary, Charades, Scruples, Life, or Monopoly might be fun
- if you know a photographer, the girls might have fun with dressing up and posing for photos (have some costumes and sports gear, not just glamour stuff) OR go to one of the chains like Sears or Penneys (you are still allowed to bring your own props)
- This idea probably sounds odd, but it might pull together a wide variety of friends: including boys, girls who are more "girly" or "tomboy", "sport" or "cheerleader, etc. Attend a local college or high school sporting event. Spectators tend to get closer to the players than at professional events (and cheaper, too). Those who don't especially enjoy the sport itself will still likely enjoy the social event.
- Make T-shirts: tie-dye if outdoors (and you're brave enough) or fabric paints/markers if indoors or to take up less time. Empty cereal boxes work pretty well inside the shirts while painting instead of the store-bought cardboard things.
- See if you have a "cheap theater" and do a movie (could be before or after other activities). Go a bit early so they have plenty of time for concessions and socializing before the movie.
- Do you have anyplace near you that does horseback riding, lessons, etc.??
Another way to celebrate is to have a "birthday outing" with just one friend (maybe 2 depending on the friends) instead of a party. You can afford to do "cooler" stuff when you are only paying for 2-3 kids.
Good luck and have fun!

My first suggestion is to just ask her.
My second suggestion is to get a group of her friends and take her someplace she'll enjoy herself. My niece had a rollerskating party with a few choice friends and family. Go to a waterpark, go carts, mini golf, movies (or make movie nite at home with some friends). If she's into sports take her to a game (cheap seats, local team) Outdoorsy? Take a group fishing or on a hike and serve cupcakes mountain top. Just be creative and stick to what the kid likes.

How about a Shrek themed party? Have gummi worms, pin the tail on Donkey, do some gross stuff, rent some movies.

you're able to constantly have a scavenger hunt. in basic terms bypass to a community park and chop up the infants (and fogeys in the event that they go with to play) into 2 communities. Then have them retrieve numerous diverse products. supply them a catalogue. or you will have them do numerous diverse video games and whoever finishes first wins. you realize like Survivor video games or spectacular Race video games.
