I think if depends on your age. However, as someone else said, they aren't much different than the Bible itself. The only thing is that the Bible stories are just that, stories, and everyone pictures the same story in a different way depending on their exposure to non-Christian things, etc.
A great site to look at for movie reviews is by Focus on the Family. Granted, any kind of movie reviewer has their own view of stories. I found nothing wrong with Harry Potter stuff, yet most of the Christian community shunned it. It totally appealed to my boys (they're watching it with Dad right now) because of the action.
A former pastor that I really respected actually made found HP true-to-life because he read is as an allegory of Christ's life. Jesus was Harry, Satan was Voldemort and so on. I'm not good at allegories because you can God in practically everything. After all, he created everything, including Satan, didn't he.
Like another person suggested, control is the key to everything we do. God gave us a free will to choose what we do. He expects us to do everything with self-control and in a way that pleases him. If we don't want him to know we're doing it, then don't.

The R rating does not necessarily translate directly into "evil" or "wrong" or "immoral." It is given by a panel organized by the Motion Picture Association of America. On their web site, it says about the R rating:
"In the opinion of the Rating Board, this film definitely contains some adult material. Parents are strongly urged to find out more about this film before they allow their children to accompany them. An R-rated film may include strong language, violence, nudity, drug abuse, other elements, or a combination of the above, so parents are counseled in advance to take this advisory rating very seriously."
So yes, the film may include behavior that Christians would consider immoral. On that basis, perhaps a Christian would not want to view the film. However, there are many films that deal with very serious issues that are rated R, but they have a positive message: Schlindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, etc. These are not movies for children, but they are valuable for adults to watch.
Don't let the MPAA control what you watch based on its ratings. Learn about the movie through descriptions and/or reviews and decide for yourself: will this movie make me a better person?

I've all the premium channels, so what do you believe? I do not live in a box. If I find a movie to be disgusting, unnecessarily gory, or smutty alternatively of artsy, and it is message, plot, or theme do not curiosity me - i modify the channel. So many films are pure trash though and it appears many so-referred to as "celebrities" will do virtually something for the bucks. I above all like supernatural thrillers. Adored the Da Vinci Code even, reason I recognized all of the falsehoods right off the bat and the film gets folks speaking and learning - peaks the curiosity. Ready for the Hollywood variation of Islam and Muhammad. ~Catholic.

It depends on your spiritual strength. If you can't handle R-rated movies, then No. The Bible says to work out your own soul salvation. You know what will hinder you and go accordingly.

Surely the Bible itself is full of Violence, Battles, Nightmareish images, Adultery, Diseases, Torture and Death. shouldnt those Christians whom offer criticisms of such things in Movies also censor ones own book?
