Usually when buying something for a girl you would probably think alone the lines of jewelery, make up, clothes, shoes, bags etc

It depends on the guy. for instance myself I like dvds, messenger bags, scarves and items for the kitchen.
I think Messenger bag, watches, bracelets, and chockers are good places to start
