is it a simple selfish slavery to one's own point of view?

Why is compromise considered weakness?

I think it is patriotism in many more cases than is apparent when the politics get down and dirty. I, for one, believe passionately in liberty and justice for all, and I have been pledging myself to that ideal since I was a small child. But we must acknowledge that we are not really there yet.

I would argue that one's own point of view is not necessarily selfish. And the term "slavery" means there is some external authority: one's own point of view is not external. Perhaps the term you wanted was stubbornness.

Compromise is "trading with the devil" on some issues, but the only reasonable approach on others. It needs to be decided on an issue by issue basis.

It is the unwillingness to give to your fellow man. I want to accumulate as much for myself as possible. Even if I'm making a million dollars a year, I want more and I will get it even at the expense of others. I do not care that my workers have no insurance, that they struggle to pay their bills, I want more. If I have more I can get more employees make even more money and just keep repeating the cycle. The more millions I make a year the more I am determined to hold onto my money and give as little back as possible. I want more than I could ever spend in good conscience in a life-time. That to me is not passionate patriotism, it's greed.

Usually it is age.

The youth lack the knowledge & experience needed to make good fair choices. They look through rose color glasses but time clears them.

As we get older, we lack the desire to change because of the knowledge & experience we have. Every 8-12 years, America votes for a huge change & 8-12 years latter we are back to wanting a change.

I vote for issues & unfornately political parties rarely change their stands on issues, so I stay with the same party.
