Your asking for metal bands that arent terribly heavy, but you mentioned Amon Amarth? Funny.. Dont be so uptight on lyrics, its just a phony image, dont take it seriously. I used to spend time worrying about what was being growled into the mic, pretty lame to worry about it.
Listen to some Morbid Angel with an open mind.. No its not evil.
Pestilence is also a good choice. Download a song from the album "Testimony of the Ancients"
Hmm.. This may be too heavy but try out Nile too
