yeah, but I'm really shy all the time, so... it just takes me a while to warm up.

I wouldn't say shy so much as not wanting to offend people I don't know yet. I just learn what's where and who's who and try to pick up on their personality. I warm up after about a week.

Depends on the environment... usually I just feed off the energy the person I'm talking to. Because I don't want to overdue the excitement or underdue it.
