I am not in to game creation, I am more in to the mathematics and business applications. But if you want to train yourself into game programming. There this thing you can download called game maker.

If you want to go more advance. Try a real computer language such as C++ or Java.

I would not recommend going towards being a game designer because of low demand.

What part of the design process most interests you?
You like to design the story? Then I would suggest taking extensive literature classes. Knowing about great stories can translate into great games.
You like to draw and invent characters? Then utilize art classes, and not just drawing, take sculpture and painting too, getting yourself familiar with other mediums will add depth to your creative ability.
Do you purely love to program? Then stick to all the math sciences. This can help train your mind to familiarize with computer languages.
Do you love to demonstrate and advocate for a game? Then you are actually a marketer! A person who sells the game (not a store clerk, but a persona who makes multimillion dollar deals with conglomerates to carry the game under their label or in their store chain!)You'll want to take speech class where they specialize in public speaking.

It depends on what classes are offered. You should take as many computer classes as possible, art would also be good. Math and Science through Calculus and Physics would be good too. Hope this helps.

Any home EC. or wood shop class. Also math and writing classes. Start talking to people who are in the business and start learning. Maybe get an internship.
