I am tired of moving my picnic table everytime I mow the grass. I am thinking about digging up the grass underneath and laying down mulch or something so that I will not have to mow it. does anyone have any good landscaping ideals about this ?

You have a great plan if you do this little ounce of prevention first. After you have all the sod dug up lay down overlapped Geo-textile fiber between the earth and your wood chips. It's available at better gardening stores everywhere.
It's a fine spun closely woven plastic fabric that permits water to drain through but does not allow vegetation to grow back up.
