As a West Indian to the bone, Mr. B.C. Lara decided to quit cricket because he was not receiving the necessary support from the West Indian Cricket Board. They were placing unfair expectations and pressures on the guy.
Also, for those who think he is old, I say yes but I strongly believe that he had a few more centuries and double centuries to make before really retiring. However, the West Indian Cricket board will have to live without him.
Its the same politics and trash talk that the WCB did that forced Carl Hooper out of West Indian cricket.

I think he is just fed up in carrying that team that once was so good in the 70 & 80's. He never got the support he deserved and was just such a great player.
I saw him get 364 at the SCG in the 90's the guy was a freak, you don't score 400 runs twice in test cricket if you havn't got enormous grit and talent.

He wasn't getting the respect from the younger guys in the team. During the World Cup he had arguement between himself, Gayle and Marlon Samuels on numerous occasions.
On top of that, The WICB wanted to remove him as captain for the Series in England.
Therefore, with all of this weighting on him he decided to quit.

He was politely asked to move on and close the Lara Era. Like Steve Waugh was.

As much as I know, he only quit ODI's. He might be in some test matches when he is ready. He is too old to be a player who is fast paced in ODI's

i think he has played much cricket now and had make fabulous records which seems unbreakable...
the main reason is or may be that he may wish now to give his time to his dear family... and he has no financial problem because he has his own buisness and he will do buisness now...
