www.tellmepinkorblue.com sends out a kit for $215 with a money back guarantee if they're wrong on the sex of the baby. I am 8 weeks pregnant, and could find out 3 months earlier. Is it worth it?!

I asked this question a few months ago, lol! Great minds think a like :o)

It was amazing to me how many people answered my question and said that there couldn't be such a test out there. Yes, there is and it does seem to be very legitimate.

What got me to thinking that I really did want to have the test done is that it is such a neat thing to be able to know the sex of the baby so early (for bonding with the baby) and also to be able tell the child, "You were one of the first babies to be able to do this" because I am sure that in 10 to 15 years this test will be the norm in prenatal care. My first baby was born 17 years ago and things have already changed so much from when I was pregnant with him.

If you have the extra cash, do it! If not, the wait until your ultrasound is not that bad. Someone told me to spend the money on something for the baby instead, which really got me thinking about how much $215 really is.

I was sure tempted to do it, but decided to wait til my 20 week ultrasound.

Hope you are able to come to a decision soon!

***I would like to add that with each of my 5 pregnancies, I always found out the baby's sex at the 20 week ultrasound and each birth was still very special, it never crossed my mind, "Wow, I'm glad that is over!" I was just caught up in the wonderful moment of enjoying my precious new baby.

I would say why waste the money when you can spend it on something for your newborn? Is it really that important to know what sex your little one will be? What major impact could it have on your life, other than knowing what colour to paint the baby's room?
Ultrasound is a commonly used tool by the medical profession, yet 10-15 years ago was very rare. Ultrasound in any form has not been proven conclusively safe, and there are many studies ongoing into the effects. One study so far has pointed to an increase in left-handedness in boys, and some tests have shown that a previously quiet baby will go berserk when near ultrasound, as though they are trying to move away from it! ( makes you wonder just what effect it is having if your baby is becoming distressed enough to move....)
I know you are not UK based, but please check out www.aims.org.uk for some information before making any decision.
Surely a healthy baby of any sex is better than risking a future health problem just to get a head start on the shopping?
Good luck with your pregnancy whatever decision you make.

No... I cannot say it would be worth it. In those 3 months you can be buying stuff that it doesn't matter the sex. You can use that $215 to purchase dresser/crib/high chair/car seat... (depending on where you are shopping..) yard sales.. you can find tons of stuff. You can also be picking up sleepers, onesies, diapers... then in 3 months when you can have the ultrasound which still isn't totally 100% positive, as the child might keep their genitals away from the camera, but, if it is a positive answer you can then to out and buy the pink/blue stuff you want. (Of you can go for the ulitimate suprise and not know the sex of your child until he/she is born..)

Or if you truely have $215 to blow, and you just want to see if it really works... then by all means, blow the $215, and let us know if it truely works after you have had the ultrasound to verify...lol...

I don't think it's worth it. It's only my opinion but here's why. I have five kids. Each labor has been fairly long and when I get to the end of it, it's fun having a surprise at the end. Not just, "Whew, I'm glad that's over with!"

Because of some complications with my second child I had lots of ultrasounds so I knew early on that he was a boy. It definitely took some suspense and the anticipation of finding out away the birth. Maybe you're one of those hyper-organized people who wants to have everything perfectly ready before the blessed event. If you are....that's great! It would be worth it for you. The only other thing to ask yourself on this is, "Can I really afford that $215 right now." If you have to pay with plastic, don't do it. Start being financially smart right now and that will help your baby more than anything else.

Have fun being a mom!

In my opinion, it isn't worth it. Unless you don't mind spending that kind of money. You could buy alot of baby stuff with $215 and you have only about 8 or 9 wks til you can find out the sex via ultrasound anyway. How is knowing 8 wks sooner going to benefit you ? You'll still have 32 or more wks to go !!! I think it's a waste of money, personally.

I do not think so. Im 34 weeks pregnant so i know the anxiety of waiting until 20 weeks to find out. However, half the fun comes after finding out the sex of the baby. Thats when u can shop for clothes, bedding, and accesories. It sure gives ya something to do when u feel better in the 2nd trimester, and helps time go by. Just think, once u make it to the 20 week mark, finding the sex is exciting and helps the rest of the pregnancy not seem so slow. Id tough out the "boring" part now.

I wish I still had the link to a web site which reviwed these tests, however it was not in favour of them. There were a high level of wrong answers and people generally were not impressed.

It was felt that this company actually takes a guess at your babies sex and has a 50/50 chance of being right. Yes there is a money back gaureentee, but imagine the profit to be made on 50% right answers.

If I can find the link, I will come back and post it.

I know that it is hard, but wait another 8 or 9 weeks and an ultrasound will give you a more accurate result.

LOL!! well is it that big of a deal to you to know? are financially fit that you can afford that out of pocket expense just to know early? i think if i had the extra money to blow on something like that, i would do it.

**sorry i needed to add; for 1, the HB is not a valid way to know what your baby is. 1 of my boys was low 130's and my other boy was high 150's-160's. GENDER is established at the time of conception. you can tell by u/s as early as 14 weeks, but if for some reason you were to need an amnio done at 8 weeks, that amnio could tell you if it was boy/girl. so whoever said gender isnt determined until 4-5 months is WRONG. lol, last thing to add, even an u/s where you can see the "parts" its still isnt a positive answer; ive seen too many people who were told its a boy and it came out a girl and also who were told its a girl and came out a boy; even amnios arent 100% accurate on gender..... so in all honestly, the only way to know for sure, 100% is birth. im sure its not very common to happen; but just keep in mind its possible. but i still stick to my original; if i had the extra cash, id do it :) congrats again on the baby!

Nope, that sounds like a scam to me. Think about it, the test could tell all women that they are having a girl and they will still be right half the time. so they pay back half the money & still make a huge profit.

If they could really tell the sex of a baby with a home kit the doctor would offer it to you.

No! If you've had a ultrasound and know your baby's heartbeat then find out thru the heartbeats. I was told my babys heartbeat was 122, I bought a book and it said that its a girl if its 140 plus if its under then its a boy, and it was a boy months later the docotr confirmed it. The book is "Johnson's mother and baby" and its featured in the first pages of the book. But just have fun with this, when you get your ultrasound you should know.
