Don't you believe it, you can do QUITE A LOT in a day:
NORTH LAINES - Raffish, 'bohemian' quarter with more independent boutiques and shops that you can shake a stick at.
OLD LAINES - More romantic and more sedate area of town, with an old town feel. Interesting shops and lovely eateries.
PIER - British seaside jollity at its best.
ARTISTS' QUARTER - located on the seafront west of the pier. Numerous intriguing galleries and workshops, marketstalling art and crafts.
BRUNSWICK LAWNS - Heading along the seafront into Hove, nice for a brisk walk to get fresh air.
BRUNSWICK - The most ;happening' part of dead-brain Hove, it's funky south-east corner with off-beat shops and...
ST ANNE'S WELL GARDENS - Attratctive park and public gardens.
WESTERN ROAD/CHURCHILL SQUARE/NORTH STREET - Consumer High Street heaven.
ROYAL PAVILION - Indian-Chinese architecture worthy of a tour inside to see its lavish purple interior.
KEMPTOWN - Peaceful, village-like quarter with nice eateries and boutiques. Home of the Kemptown festival on the third Saturday of June every year.
THE LEVEL - Park about a mile up from the seafront, hip and trendy nieghbourhood with quirky pubs.
HANOVER - Ditto the Level, venture to the top of Islingword Road to see the multi-coloured terraced Victorian houses, then do a quirky pub crawl on the way down along SOUTHOVER STREET.
PRESTON PARK - Large greenspace on the way out of town home to numerous attractions including bowls area, rose garden and rotunda.
QUEENS PARK - Peaceful green area just up a bit from the seafront, similar to St Anne's Well Gardens and popular with families.
BRIGHTON MARINA - From afar, this looks like a giant slab of concrete, up close however, it is a haven of designer shops and funky eateries (including a floating pagoda). Great place for a casual wander.
DITCHLING ROAD - Another great place fo a wander (if you like that kind of thing). Rather like the Upper West Side of New York, only with more character.
MARKET - There is a weekday market beside the Level with good value produce.

If you're just there for a day then the Royal Pavilion is just down the street from the Station (at the front of the station is a street that goes down under the road - that street leads to the Royal Pavilion).
If you're from London, you have to at least see the Sea, if the weather's fine, you can go on the Brighton Pier (The Palace Pier to most Brightonians). If the weather's rainy try the Sea-Life Centre (the old Dolphinarium) just opposite the Pier.

The pier, the beach and the seafront promenade between the piers.
The Royal Pavillion. The Lanes. The North Laine shopping area.
The Downs. Queens Park.
Lots of great pubs!
Avoid the Marina & Churchill Square unless you like commercialised concrete locations.

You wont see alot in a day, but a must is the Royal Pavilion and a stroll down the lanes its a step back in time. There are also many antique shops and the marina is worth spending some time in. Have a good day.
