If your trying to pay - Panda antivirus.
Free - AVG Anti Virus.

AVG has detected and removed viruses that these programs couldn't:
1.Norton
2.Mcafee
3.Nod32
4.the rest...

Trust me it works!

Go to http://www.downloads.com and search AVG... most popular download so far this year, well second most populard, but the free edition works great.

As for the above comment that the free ones are crap, I take more calls from customers that want to remove Norton and McAfee for slowing the system down, perfect waste of money.

Well
In my opinion Ccleaner is the number one tool for cleaning your pc. I've been using it for more then a year now and it works very well. You can grab your free copy here http://bit.ly/1sW1Ssl
Give it a try.
I hope it helps

ZONEALARM or McAfee are good and competitively priced.

I had my PC hacked into once when I didn't have it properly protected, they got my credit card details etc. They went spending everywhere but luckily I didn't have to pay any of it.

The £30 I spend (yearly) on Zonealarm now is well worth it!

AVG is prob the best but you get what you pay for. DO NOT USE SPYBOT, it has a worm that obviously it won't show but trust me its there!

I use Trend Micro PC-Cillin, it doesn't slow your computer down like Norton
