Why do people think gays are the rejects of society (physically)?

Okay, it seems that some people assume the gay community is compiled of ugly men and ugly women, the rejects of society who were unable to get relationships with the opposite sex and have been forced into a life of homosexuality because of their horrible looks.

One example is someone earlier asked a question about Jesse Metcalf and whether he is gay or not. Someone answers "he is not gay, he is sooooo hot". So "hot" people can't be gay?

I know I am lesbian, but I get hit on by more men than women. We aren't gay because we can't get someone of the opposite sex, we aren't attracted.

And when did all the straights become fine??

You have a great point here. Personally, I always fine my self using the phrase "s/hes way to hot to be straight...." LOL

I love the gay community and I feel its extremely unfair how they are treated. Its sad how its already the 21st century and people are still judgmental about ones sexuality.

But.... their will always be someone judging you.... there will always be some one disapproving of your life style..... and there will always be someone who will hate.... but there will always be someone there to love you no matter what.... someone who will support you til the end.

That comment only goes to show how much stupidity they have....

MY stereotype of gay guys tends to the circuit boy, the slim aesthete, or the burly "bear," none of them physical rejects, plus the nerdy high-school kid, like I was--before there were nerds--who does get stamped "Reject." (Oddly enough, several of the girls in the class just behind me seemed quite interested in me, but I was never interested in them, even tho I was horny enough at the time to have a significant str8 component. I *think* it was lack of self-confidence on my part, too.)

And when I think about it, I imagine most lesbians, butch or femme, as more physically fit on average than str8s

I don't think I've ever had an idea that gays were more unhot than str8s!

Do str8s really think we are? Or just the occasional fool like the one you quote?

Long P.S. to Crazy Tigger: In case you actually don't know, there IS a stereotype of the lesbian look.

She (the stereotype) has a "bad" haircut--meaning it's mannish: Short and easy to care for.
She wears plaid shirts.
She wears pants.
She uses a name that could be a boy's, or at minimum is not "pretty."
That is, of course, the "butch" lesbian. If anybody knows a stereotype of the "femme" version, I'd be fascinated to hear about it.

Not so very oddly, the stereotype is sometimes true. The Salt Lake Weekly has just published a profile of Babs DeLay, local real estate agent and community radio host (I've listened to her off and on for years), and longtime "out" gay activist. I don't believe any of the pix show her in plaid, but otherwise . . .

Of course I'm perfectly willing to believe that you have none of those characteristics and are just as lesbian as Babs is. After all, I'm a gay male, and many, perhaps most, of the standard markers (appeance and behavior) don't apply to me.

they must be from mars cuz all the str8 girls at my school want to go out with me. most of my friends know im gay so it's funny. but I WANT A BF!!!!!!!!! and not some old fart who just likes me cuz he wants sex, LOL. plus most guys that r str8 r super stupid in my class they never get good grades. so maybe i should look for the smart guys bet there the gay ones HaHaHa kidding

I don't know where this goes from but it's stupid

I always get hit on by guys and when I tell them I'm gay they say "you don't look like a lesbian"... how are lesbians supposed to look?????
