As many human beings... as many chains of thoughts can there be! As many human beings... as many paths to God can there be! Based on the parameters available... most human beings deduce their answers. One perceives the glass as half full... the other half empty! Both are right... it is only the analogy of perception that makes it appear distinct!

The doctrine of Anekantavada in Jainism proves this point. The theory of non-one-sidedness makes it possible that the same person is called Father by some, uncle by other, son by some, and brother by other. The human being under question is one... but addressed in different ways! In practical life also... every doctrine can have many facets!

For a spiritualist... the impending doom in 2012 would result as sins outweigh virtues. For Dharma (righteousness) to prevail... the end of adharma (lawlessness) is a must. Contrary to above for an environmentalist the impending disaster is the result of disturbance in the Ecology of the planet as a whole. Mankind has long played with nature... time has come for all to suffer!

In terms of a physicist... life always comes full circle. The fast developments in the world of science also have its perils. The right technology in wrong hands can cause irreparable disaster. Probably science has outlived its life. Albert Einstein rightly predicted that the fourth world war would be fought with sticks and stones. Whatever developments of science we perceive today... all shall perish into darkness in the aftermath of world war 3. More on end of the world in 2012 - http://www.godrealized.com/2012.html

Don't worry about that it's not a person's choice or a rock's choice or some code or calander's choice when the world is going to end, it's Jesus's choice it even said that in the Bible nobody knows for sure and the Bible won't say when it will come. If scientist and stuff can't even predict tommorow's weather correct all the time what makes us think that they can predict years from now. I saw on that magazine there will be exciting events so if they're exciting why would it worry people?? Besides the Earth is 2007 years old in some months now, I think that's pretty young for a planet and they make predictions of what can happen in 2050 on the world, how can that be prodicted if it's ended?? Just don't worry about. (And I'll try not to eigther).

The Mayan calendar that was carved into a large rock only gives dates up to the year 2012.

Since it was carved centuries ago, many people believe that they knew the world would end at that time, and that's why they carved the calendar.

There simply aren't "so many" predictions that the world will end in 2012.

some say that simply because that is when the Mayan Calendar ended (they ran out of rock most likely - not days).

Because on every package of film, canned food, or medicine, the expiration date is never higher than 2012.

There aren't that many - it only looks that way because of the way the media advertises it. Otherwise you don't have to worry unless it starts spiraling closer to DEFCON 1.
