Hi,
Please do this just Un-install both of your present Virus checkers and then Install "AVG" it's free and has never given me any problems. This will help you.

Didn't you ever uninstall McAfee? I would try this first.
Many programs come with their own uninstall. Right-click on McAfee and see if this is the case. I would suggest doing this in Safe Mode - then Restart.
I'm not familiar with AOL security but try to find out if they allow a scan or if they just watch files as they come and go.

I believe the Mcafee program just wants you to renew it. Ive had the same problem as you--eventually I got the Mcafee deleted or disabled. I dont remember exactly what I did, but go to Start, then control panel, then Add or remove programs if you remove Mcafee your problem should be solved. I tried having 2 anti virus programs at the same time and it usually causes problems.

You computer may actually be clean. However having 2 anti viruses installed may be causing the problem. It is not recommended to have 2 installed, regardless if they are active or not. Uninstall McAfee and see if the problem continues.

you cannot have 2a/v on the same computer without conflict just uninstall the mcafee and all will be well.
P.S. the file its finds on shut down is the AOL security most likely.

all of the suggestions for free virus software in other answers are fine so i won't talk about them. insted, if you have windows XP, try restoring to before your computer got viruses. go to : Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. When it pops up, choose "Restore my Computer to a future date" and press next. Click on a date that has bolded numbers (one before your computer screwed up) and press next. your computer will log off then restore, then it will shut down. when it is on, it should be back to normal :-)

You probably need to use a different spyware scanner to figure out what is going on. Your best bet it to buy one, but if you don't have the money, you can get a decent free version from Google by installing the Google Pack.
You can get the Google Pack here:
http://www.bestspywarereport.com/freesoft.html
If you want to install a premium scanner and don't mind having to pay for it, I would suggest XoftspySE, which you can read about here:

Good luck!

Go to Download.com, and get Spybot: Search & Destroy, AVG Free antivirus and Windows Defender, all of these are great freeware which will likely find something if there is a problem on your computer.

The two may be conflicting, but it is right. AOL may not be able to find everything, and McAffee may have found something. Install a diff. one and scan.
