Do you think its normal that I never got pregnant with that method or was he just good at that???Im getting nervous.....

ya know...a long time ago...I would have said yes, something is wrong, because that method is only suppose to be like what 40% effective or something like that, however, my husband and I got together when I was 16 almost 17, I'm 27 now, and that was what we ended up using, all the birth controls left unwanted symptoms(persistent bleeding, raised blood pressure) so I stopped taking them, and condoms always gave him a rash, no matter what kind, so we used the pull out method...I never got pregnant..never, till we decided to have a baby, which was one year after we got married (I was 20 ), we tried for one month....boom I was pregnant, afterwards, we went back to using the pull out method.....never got pregnant, it is now 7 years later, and in October after halloween we decided it was time for another one, I'm due in 5wks :) now don't get me wrong..I'm not advocating this..it does not work for everyone..for some reason though it works well for us, who knows, maybe God understands our options with birth control I don't know, what I do know for certain is that apparently my husband has some strong obeying little swimmers...he tells them to go and they apparently do :)

The "pull-out" method is a very unreliable method of birth control, since there's the possibility that some semen will get into the vagina anyway. But you were lucky that you didn't get pregnant by that method. Now, that you want a baby, you'll have to be patient and try at the right time of the month, which is usually half-way through the menstrual cycle, about 14 days after. Give it some time, and it will happen. Good luck!

Hey, my partner and I used the pull-out method for 2 years and I never got pregnant or even had a late period. Then my friend got pregnant using the pull-out method, so we swtiched to birth control pills. I was pregnant within 6 months on the pill. I think it was all just luck, though. You're probably fine...I think pregnancy from pre-ejaculate is pretty much luck of the draw. 26% of its users get pregnant within a year, and I guess some lucky ones never do. Pre-ejaculate DOES NOT contain as many sperm as actual ejaculate, so of course you're less likely to get pregnant from it. I don't say that to encourage others to use pulling out as birth control...26% is 1 in 4 people...those are pretty high odds. I AM saying it so you don't get discouraged from trying to conceive. 26% of people using pull out get pregnant. 85% of people ejaculating inside get pregnant. There is obviously a difference.

We use the pull out method AND watch the calendar. I know that I am very regular and watch the calendar for ovulation days. We either refrain from activities on those days, or use protection. Technically, if you are not ovulating, you can't get pregnant. Watch the calendar for your ovulation days. You can google "ovulation calculator" and it will have you type in the first day of your last period so that you can know which days you'll be ovulating. If you try for a couple months specifically on the days of ovulations and still don't get pregnant, you may want to buy an ovulation predictor. Then, if it still doesn't work, see your ob/gyn. For now, I wouldn't worry.

Well I guess you were lucky you never got preggers, cuz pulling out is not very reliable. But who wants to use a condom? And birth control will just make you fat and b*tchy. If you've only been trying for a month I don't think there's much to worry about, honestly people don't realize that getting pregnant, whether you want to or not, is not always easy.

If you're worried, go see a fertility doctor. Probably a good idea anyways.

When I was in high school I also used the pull out method - stupid on my part. I never got pregnant either - although sometimes I was on birth control pills - but not always.

I wouldn't worry about it. Lots of people use that method and don't get pregnant.

you guys were VERY lucky!! it is a possibility that something else could be wrong though. the pull out method is extremely unreliable; it got me 3 pregnancies!! but, one month isnt very long at all. keep trying for a few more months and then see your ob/gyn. most doctors wont see you for fertility unless youve been trying for at least 1 year with no luck. good luck, and count your blessings you made it those 5 years without a pregnancy then!

so maybe the "pull out" method wasn't what was keeping you from getting pregnant that whole time?

Maybe he has a low sperm count? Or you have some problem where you are unable to conceive.

Anyone who's been through a high school Sex Ed class knows the pull-out method is not reliable. So maybe it was some other reason?

Pull out method is not reliable.. I would keep trying tho..

it has only been a month..

But I doubt after 5 years your husband is " good at that"

It is possible there is another reason...

One month is hardly any time at all. Good grief, have some patience! ( By the way you've been incredibly lucky because that method of birth control is horribly unreliable - I hope what you've said doesn't encourage other young people to be as reckless as you were, because they may not be as lucky. Also it doesn't prevent diseases like a condom. )
