There are a total of 8 seasons of Charmed. (I've heard season 8 will be out on DVD in the US on 9/11/07). Shannon Doherty was with the show until the end of the 3rd season. You don't find out until the first episode of season 4 that she actually died.

There are 8 seasons of Charmed, seven of which are out on DVD (the eighth season comes out on Sept. 11). Shannon's character Prue was killed in the season three finale All Hell Breaks Loose.

there are 8 seasons of charmed. the last episode, forever charmed covered 80 years of the halliwell family (including the past and the future). but some fans are making up a season 9 on some websites, sorry i don't know the exact site, but it's not official so officially, there are 9 seasons.
it's shannen doherty. her last appearance was in the season 3 finale, all hells break loose (she also directed that episode). it was revealed in the premiere of the 4th season (charmed again part 1) that her character, prue, had died. to continue the story and the show, they wrote in another sister, another charmed played by rose mcgowan. she played paige matthews, the half whitelighter-half witch long-lost half sister of piper and phoebe
