I have asked him to stop, told him he is gross. I hope he shi*ts his pants!

Tell the person that you would appreciate if they would stop and act in a professional manner. Then, if it keeps happening go to your boss.

Obviously he shouldn't wave it at you, but it is possible he can't help the farting. I had a terrible problem with it, caused by swallowing a lot of phlegm, (no I couldn't use a Kleenex, it was constant) which was caused by a reaction from the perfume people wore, room deodorant and hairspray. It turned out my high blood pressure medication compounded this problem, but it took 20 years for a doctor to figure it out. Now it doesn't happen very often.
People around me would use room fresheners and deoderants, which would make it worse, and cause asthma like attacks.

I agree, you need to tell your boss so he/she can have a discussion with the coworker. Some people are quite crude and don't think twice about farting in public.
