I head that the price of the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 is supposed to drop sharply on July 22. I heard this from two people and was wondering if I should go ahead and build my computer, which I am wanting to very anxiously, or should I wait around till The 22nd when and if the flight drops? Can anyone confirm that the price is going to drop?

The price is going to drop, that is confirmed. The Q6700 will be released that day, at a price of $530, so the Q6600 will drop to around $270. If you want this processor, then you should most definately wait. Now you will have to wait a few days after the 22nd, price drops aren't reflected immediately at retailers.

You are correct to assume that a quad will will work better for encoding video not soo much for games though. That FSB makes a huge difference, generally more then the actual clock. The only benifit you will get from the quad is the beefed up cach (that does come in handy for games :) ) I use a mobile duo at 1.66 per coreand about 533 FSB and the chip is simply phenominal compared to the old 3.2 P4's sporting the same FSB and hyper threading. Unless you are running a workstation I think you will be happier with the duo. With my measely 533 FSB I still encode at about 2x the speed of the original frame even in the higher bitrate ranges (1000+ in divx 6 with advanced motion tracking and error correction)
